Recently a collaboration has developed between Rotary International and Toastmasters International. At our Feb. 4, 2020 meeting, Rumi Keast helped us celebrate that partnership locally. And on Feb. 18, Rumi was joined by Dee DeMars and Bob Ingram for a presentation about the importance of personal relationships, kindness, and role modeling.
Rumi was born and raised in Japan, where she met her husband, an American. After learning English and moving to the US, she became a translator.
Rumi has been a Toastmaster for 5 years. In the 3rd year, she courageously accepted the demanding role of Vice President of Education. During her tenure, the Gig Harbor Toastmasters Club won the Distinguished Club Award for the first time in 9 years. Recently, Rumi took on that role again.
Rumi’s presentation to Rotary North was entitled, “How Toastmasters Benefits Your Life, and How Toastmasters and Rotary Can Work Together."
