On August 18, 2020 Richard Miller provided updates about Food Backpacks4Kids, and how it is responding to the challenges of distributing food during the pandemic.

Richard, shown here during a Zoom meeting with us, is director of FoodBackpacks4Kids. The organization is dedicated to feeding hungry children and their families in Gig Harbor and on Key Peninsula.

When COVID-19 shut down schools, the organization began distributing food to families via drive-through locations and by home delivery. It has given away over 100,000 pounds of food, including fresh produce, dairy and meats. Once schools are able to re-open it will continue to provide food through backpacks, school-based food pantries, and drive-by distributions.

FoodBackpacks4Kids relies on the help of many local volunteers, including Rotary North member Paul Miller (left).
