Contingent from JBLM will be coming to alert Gig Harbor community about what we should be doing NOW to plan for the 9.0 earthquake that is already overdue in our area.  It has been determined that expected results in Western Washington will be WORSE than what happened and is still happening in Puerto Rico as result of their recent hurricane.  The members from JBLM are highly trained Emergency Preparedness and commanders and will "Tell it Like it Is" without any political correctness.

1: They will emphasize what the weaknesses are in Gig Harbor - specifically the problems with evacuating the many people living in retirement homes and who may be confined to beds or wheelchairs.  Gig Harbor does NOT have sufficient handicap busses to move a large population of disabled people even if they are not injured - and if they are injured that problem gets even larger.

2: They will touch on the problem of: "How to secure those incarcerated in the Women's Prison IF the earthquake causes the fences to fall down.

3. What happens IF the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapses - the overpasses on 16 fall down, etc.  How about trucks delivering food to Costco, Albertson, Safeway, etc.  The stores in Gig Harbor will be empty in 48 hours.

4. What about temporary morgues ?

These and other questions will be asked and answered.by professionals.

The Remann Hall Book Club exists because we believe in the power of books to change lives for the better. The youth we served have made unfortunate choices - choices that have harmed themselves and others - yet they are still youth, and they can change their lives forever.  Mary Gorman, Program Manager and member of Gig Harbor Midday, will share with you the story of Remann Hall Book Club, how it came to be, and how it affects the lives of young people through the power of reading.
